QOwnNotes 26.4.8, published by pbek, is an open-source desktop notepad that combines full Markdown editing with an integrated todo list manager, giving researchers, developers, and writers a single place to draft documentation, track tasks, and store knowledge without locking data into a proprietary format. Because notes are saved as plain-text files in whichever local or cloud-synced folder the user designates, the application works comfortably alongside Nextcloud, ownCloud, Syncthing, or simple network drives, letting teams collaborate on wikis, meeting minutes, or academic journals while still being able to read or edit the same files with any other text editor. The interface offers a three-pane layout—file browser, editor, and optional preview—so users can toggle live Markdown rendering, highlight code blocks with 275 syntax modes, insert LaTeX math, or embed images and attachments through an intuitive drag-and-drop system. A built-in todo list panel parses standard .txt todo files and synchronizes with Nextcloud Tasks or CalDAV servers, turning the editor into a lightweight project manager that can tag, prioritize, and schedule work without leaving the note-taking environment. Advanced features include unlimited tagging, hierarchical note linking, Vim mode, scripting via QML and JavaScript, AES-256 encryption, WebDAV publishing, and a command palette that accelerates navigation across libraries containing thousands of sheets. After 133 official releases the software remains under active development, with portable Windows, Linux, and macOS builds updated regularly through GitHub, community package managers, and the publisher’s own site. QOwnNotes is available for free on get.nero.com, where downloads are supplied through trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always serve the latest version, and support batch installation alongside other applications.
